Confined Space Rescue

Overview: OSHA requires that employers who have permit spaces in their facilities in which employees will be working provide rescue and emergency services in case of an accident.
Course Required by: OSHA
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this training the student will be familiar with:
1. The entry permit.
2. The use of PPE necessary for making rescues.
3. The use of retrieval systems for non-entry rescue.
4. The entry permit system and the need to communicate the system for preparation, issuance, use, and cancellation of the entry permit.
5. The hazards encountered while performing a confined space rescue.
6. The behavioral effects of the hazards which are possible in the confined spaces in your facility.
7. How to perform the assigned rescue duties. Each member will have their own assigned duties.
8. The Material Safety Data Sheets for the materials that may be present in the permit space.
9. The requirements to have training in first-aid and CPR.
10. The requirements to practice a permit space rescue.
11. In a controlled simulated IDLH environment students will be required to:
- a) Respond to a rescue alert
- b) Evaluate the emergency and determine the correct rescue method
- c) Determine the atmospheric hazards
- d) Utilize the appropriate PPE
- e) Enter the confined space
- f) Perform a rescue on an unconscious victim
- g) Evaluate victim once outside and administer proper first aid until medical personnel arrive on scene

Written Exam: SMS requires a minimum score of 70%. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.
