Lock out Tag out Awareness

Overview:   As employees who operate or use machines to which lockout/tagout are applied or work in an area where lockout/tagout is performed, you need understand the procedures involved in lockout/tagout, the reasons for lockout/tagout, and dangers involved when a lockout/tagout is interfered with. This training provides the reasons and proper procedures for lockout/tagout. The information covered in this session includes the steps in the lockout/tagout and the affected employee's part in the procedure. Also, you'll be provided information on the locks and tags that are used.

Course Required by:  OSHA

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of the course, the student will be familiar with:

1.         Outline OSHA's regulations in Subpart K of 29 CFR 1926.   

2.         Explain how electricity works.    

3.         Describe electric shock.  

4.         Discuss the types of grounding for electrical equipment.   

5.         Explain electrical hazard protective devices.   

6.         Explain GFCIs.    

7.         Explain the Assured Equipment Grounding Conductor program   

8.         Outline lockout/tagout procedures     

9.         Outline guarding requirements. 

10.       Describe the use of insulation.

11.       Describe the use of personal protective equipment.   

Written Exam:  SMS requires a minimum score of 70%.  Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.
