Drug & Alcohol Awareness

Course Length:  2 hours

CFR Reference:  DOT 46 CFR 16.401 & 391.119

Overview:  The program on Substance Abuse Awareness is a knowledge based training program that meets DOT & USCG guidelines for awareness level training and education pertaining to crewmembers working in offshore safety sensitive positions.

Course Required by:  DOT, USCG

Course Objectives:  At the end of the training, employees should be familiar with the Drug-Free Workplace Policy and aware of the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse. 

Employees should understand:
  • The requirements of the Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
  • The prevalence of alcohol and drug abuse and its impact on the workplace
  • How to recognize the link between poor performance and/or alcohol and drug abuse
  • The progression of the disease of addiction
  • What types of assistance may be available
Written Exam:  SMS requires a minimum score of 70%.  Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.
