1. State and Federal laws and regulations as they pertain to boating and vessel operation.
2. Aspects of boating that not only help you become a safer team member onboard a maritime vessel.
3. Issues in boating which could potentially be dangerous to the marine environment.
4. Making boaters aware of their responsibility to themselves, their shipmates, and other vessel maritime traffic.

Written Exam:  SMS requires a minimum score of 70%. Incorrectly answered questions will be reviewed with student to ensure understanding before completion of course.

Retraining:  Student is responsible for retraining every year.
