Fall Protection: 2hrs
  1. Participate in a facilitated discussion of the most recent Z359 fall protection standard and how they apply to industrial fall protection

  2. State the ABC's of fall protection

  3. Demonstrate the correct procedures for erecting, maintaining, disassembling, and inspecting personal fall protection systems including anchor placement, shock absorbing lanyards, connectors, and a personal fall protection harness using 100% tie off and a self-retracting lifeline (SRL)

  4. Discuss the theory of passive and active fall protection systems

  5. Discuss the theory of a vertical lifeline

  6. Complete a fall arrest system clearance diagram exercise

Confined Spaces: 2hrs

Construction Inspections, Audits, and Observations: 30mins

Construction Work Permit Policies: 30mins
  1. State the purpose of work permit policies

OSHA Inspection Procedures: 30mins
  1. Explain why OSHA inspects construction sites

  2. Describe the process for an on-site OSHA inspection

  3. Explain the difference between a focused inspection and a wall-to-wall inspection

  4. Explain the consequences of OSHA citations, violations, and fines

  5. Explain the rights and responsibilities of employees and employers during an OSHA inspection

  6. Explain OSHA's multi-employer work site inspection and citation procedures

Construction Safety Orientation and Training: 1hr
  1. Effectively train all employees on a job site about safety policies and procedures

  2. Coordinate safety training programs

  3. Each student will give a five minute presentation on a safety topic of their choice
Safety and Health Program: 1hr

 

Materials: Please bring a personal computer. This is an instructor facilitated class where students learn to navigate OSHA regulations. We do supply a sample test bank from which each student can practice for the actual exam. the course qualifies for the 30 hours of formal training.

Course Required By: Employer

Retraining: Student is responsible for safety Training Supervisor (STS) retraining every 5 years.

Students will complete the registration in class and submit it for approval to BCSP. ONce approved, students register at a testing location nearest to their primary home to sit for the exam. Students are responsible for registration and testing fees when they register with Pearson VUE. This course does not cover registration and testing fees.

To achieve the STS certification, you must pass a Safety Trained Supervisor examination.

Testing is held offsite at Pearson VUE's Learning Center testing sites through CCHEST. STS examinations are offered by computer at Pearson VUE testing center locations around the world every business day. The examination contains 100 multiple-choice questions and candidates have two hours to complete it.

Eligibility and Examination

To gain eligibility for a STS examination, you must be of good moral character and meet the following three requirements:

  • Have two years of experience in any industry or in the industry related to the version of the STS examination to be taken
  • Have one year of experience as a supervisor or safety leader of a work group. Examples are manager, foreman, crew chief, superintendent, or member of a safety committee. This experience can be concurrent with Requirement #1. If you are training to become a supervisor or safety leader and do not have the one year experience, you can substitute two additional years of industry experience in Requirement #1.
  • Have completed 30 hours of formal safety training through a single course or multiple training course
