    Along with Health and Wellness education for and assessment of employees, Occupational Health Technicians also specialize in conducting audits of food service providers to ensure compliance with established food safety standards and inspect emergency medical equipment to ensure adequate supplies are maintained and kept up to date.

    Food safety responsibilities include but not limited to:
    • Perform kitchen/galley inspections utilizing Company-specified and Gulf of Mexico Food Safety Standards.
    • During on-site visits, confirm ServSafe certifications of catering company employees that handle food.
    • Evaluate practices for shipping/receiving of groceries.
    • Inspect food storage practices to ensure use of 1st in-1st out inventory controls.
    • Confirm catering contractors are providing healthy choice options during meal times.
    • Examine Logs (Temperatures, Groceries, Labeling, Expiration Dates, etc.) to ensure use and proper documentation.
    • Perform onsite catering company inspections using contracting companies' specified orders/needs, followed by a complete report of findings.
    Medical equipment inspection responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • Inventory EMR-medical bags to ensure proper inventory/expiration dates.
    • Inspect electric stair chairs for proper operation.
    • Evaluate spine boards/transfer baskets for proper condition.
    • Inventory first aid kits to ensure proper inventory/expiration dates.
    • Inspect Automated External Defibulators for proper operation.
    • Re-order medical equipment as needed.

Operating under the Health and Wellness division of SMS, Occupational Health Technicians serve to develop a wellness relationship with offshore employees, assisting them in education and awareness of healthier lifestyle habits. In addition, using various convenient screening methods, our Occupational Health Technicians strive to inform participants of their own current health status, providing recommendations and incentives to decrease or control health risk factors.

    The Occupational Health Technician’s responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
    • Inform participating employees of available resources while offshore and at any class sessions.
    • Provide proper Cardiovascular Health CRA to employees during offshore visits and any company super sessions.
    • Communicate and support employee participation in their company’s program.
    • Collaborate with Offshore Wellness Coordinators, Advisors, Wellness Committee, and onsite wellness contacts to engage the population in health and wellness initiatives.
    • Observe and evaluate employees’ Health and Wellness habits, readiness to modify behaviors, and utilization of site specific Health and Wellness programs to assist in positive changes.
    • Assist in the development, promotion, and delivery of company’s Health and Wellness initiatives.
    • Utilize standard protocols to guide employees regarding personal wellness goals and to perform Health and Wellness orientations and demonstrations as needed.
    • Educate employees about Health and Wellness using various media and technologies.
    • Conduct one on one education sessions, goal setting and customizing action plans for individual needs.
    • Perform inspections of fitness equipment and report any issues.
    • Attend and actively participate in morning safety meetings promoting healthy lifestyles by sharing resources and employees’ success stories thus far in the program.
    • Conduct, track, and report employees’ biometric assessments.
